Pergola Rug

So I told you a little while ago about the rug I was working on for our pergola....well, it's done!!!  It took a LOT longer than I anticipated but most ideas from Pinterest do. Have you ever done something you saw on Pinterest that ended up being easier than it looked?  I know I haven't LOL.

The final tally for my 10' x 14' rug was $70.

I bought two of these rugs for $18 each.  You know those cheap thin blue grey indoor outdoor rugs?

Well here's the finished result... It took two gallons of brown paint ($12 each) and a quart of blue paint ($9). I did use some left over paint I had for two of the stripes to match some fabric I have picked out.  I love the end result and can't wait to have a BBQ!

Busy Busy Busy

Hello All:

So my husband had surgery and it's been a lot harder to take care of Aubrey without his help in the evenings.  But we are making it and it is nice to have him home during the day.  Someone to talk to that doesn't require constant smiling and baby talk :).

Anyways, check out our new pergola and fire pit area!  My husband and I have been busy.  I stained and he built! I'm so proud so I thought I would share.  The "curtains" are actually outdoor table cloths I found at Hobby Lobby in their summer clearance.  An oblong table cloth just happens to be 9' long! It required no sewing from me which is awesome because I am not very good at it.

We still have a lot to do but it is coming together. Notice I have chairs but no table :) I'm still putting it together in the garage.  I also have a lot of planters to fill with lots of color and pillows to make for the chairs.

I wanted a big rug to bring in some color and tie in the curtains because I didn't really have a choice with the blue.  I also wanted to spend as little as possible.  I saw on Pinterest (yes, Pinterest) the idea of painting one of those cheapo outdoor rugs from the home improvement stores so I gave it a shot.  I bought two for $18 each.  They were an ugly utility grey color and didn't go very well with my table and chairs.  I decided what the heck, let's attempt to paint these things!  It took two gallons of brown paint to change the color and I still need to paint the chevron pattern on them but I'm loving it already.  I used duct tape on the back to tape them together and make one big 10' x 14' rug.  I can't wait to show you pics!
